Kamchatka[kɐmˈt͡ɕætkə]
Kamchatka is a 1,250km long peninsula in Russia’s far east, geographically closer to Alaska than to Moscow. It is surrounded by the Okhotskoye Sea, the Beringovo Sea, and the Pacific Ocean. This region has a very unique environment which makes it a place to visit when you’re longing for picturesque views, unforgettable traveling, and unity with nature. Famous volcanoes, numerous rivers and lakes, enigmatical geysers, traces of wild animals, adventure, and delight – this is an incomplete list of what awaits you in Kamchatka.
A trip to Kamchatka won’t be complete without a visit to the Kronotsky Nature Reserve. After all, it’s the best place to marvel at the Kronotsky Volcano.
In here, you also get to enjoy the Valley of the Geysers – one of the seven wonders of Russia. In the Kamchatka valley there are 40 geysers and countless thermal springs. Tourists can see some of the most fantastic scenery here: hot lakes, geysers, steam jets, fumaroles, hollows full of bubbling mud, boiling springs, bursts of hot steam, smell of sulfur, and droplets of water shining in the sun. In 1973, the Sannikov Land film was shot in these exotic parts.
Volcanoes are the gold mine of Kamchatka. Of those, 30 are active and about 300 dormant. People climb volcanoes and also use their slopes for skiing and snowboarding. If you have got the experience and courage, then heli-skiing (downhill skiing on pristine snow-covered slopes) is just the thing for you. This is a unique, yet affordable entertainment available all year round.
Kamchatka Bear is a real host here. Meeting with a taliped here is an ordinary event. However, it is better to admire the animal from a distance, so when a bear approaches, you need to create more noise. You can observe the habits of these large animals from a safe distance during spawning when the great bearish salmon hunt begins.
The tourist environment and services are constantly developing in Kamchatka. Guests can choose out of many routes suited to every fancy. Air, boat, and jeep tours, hiking, visiting such amazing places as the Valley of Geysers and the outskirts of the Kurile Lake, climbing volcanoes and much more — all this awaits tourists at any time of the year. However, the most popular season is from July to October.
