The Karachay-Cherkess Republicand Arkhyz
Karachay-Cherkessia is one of Russia’s most picturesque regions; it is conveniently located in the eastern part of the Caucasus Mountains and is similar in size to a small European country. This is mountainous region where people live close to the sky and have not lost the life-giving connection with nature.
Karachay-Cherkessia is a mountainous area and most of its landscapes feature two-headed Mount Elbrus, the king of the Caucasus. With its magnificent mountains, huge spruce trees, and emerald rivers, it is the dream land for skiers and climbers. Karachay-Cherkessia also welcomes tourists who come for one or two-day sightseeing tours.
Arkhyz is a village in the valley of the Bolshoy Zelenchuk River, in the Republic of Karachay–Cherkessia, Greater Caucasus in Russia, about 70 km inland from the Black Sea shore. Famed throughout Russia for its mineral water, Arkhyz is surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the Caucasus. Dozens of foot, equestrian, and cycling routes ranging from the 1st to the 4th category of complexity, start in the valley and proceed through countless mountain gorges.
The new off-season resort of Arkhyz was constructed at a frantic pace. The infrastructure is complete already. A multifunctional center with ski equipment rental office and other service facilities are available. The total length of ski slopes at the resort is about 15 km. The resort is most suitable for active, athletic, family travelling and eco-tourism.
