Republic of North Ossetia-Alaniaand Vladikavkaz
Republic of North Ossetia – Alania is located in the North Caucasian Federal District of the Russian Federation.
The area of the Republic is 8000 sq km (that is 0.05% of the Russia’s territory). 48% of the area consists of mountains. The uniqueness of nature and climatic conditions, as well as rich cultural and historic traditions can be prerequisites for the development of the touristic and recreation cluster in North Ossetia.
Eco-tourism is performed by such perspective types of touristic activity as agro-tourism, mountain and recreation tourism, medical and sanitary tourism, historical and regional tourism, ethno-ecological tourism, “green tourism” etc.
Vladikavkaz is the capital of North Ossetia republic, southwestern Russia. It lies along the Terek River and on the northern slopes of the Caucasus Mountains. Founded in 1784, Vladikavkaz was constructed as the key fortress to secure the two main routes across the Caucasus in Russian Empire: the Georgian Military Highway and the Ossetian Military Highway.
Nowadays Vladikavkaz is one of the most populous cities in the North Caucasus. The city is an industrial and transportation centre. Manufactured products include processed zinc and lead, machinery, chemicals, clothing and food products.
